Ghanaian financial analyst and forex trader, Bright Kojo Onipayede, popularly known as Kojo Forex, has emerged victorious in a defamation lawsuit against controversial social media personality, Albert Nathaniel Hyde, widely known as Bongo Ideas.

The ruling was delivered by the High Court of Justice (General Jurisdiction Division 2) in Accra, presided over by Justice Forson Agyapong Baah, who found Bongo Ideas guilty of publishing false and defamatory statements about Kojo Forex on Twitter/X.

1. Defamatory Statements

The court determined that:

Bongo Ideas published false and malicious statements against Kojo Forex on Twitter.

The statements had no factual basis and were intended to tarnish the plaintiff’s reputation.

 

2. Negative Impact on Kojo Forex

The defamatory posts significantly damaged the reputation of Kojo Forex in the eyes of the public.

The court ruled that the statements were made with reckless disregard for the truth, further aggravating the harm caused.

3. Malicious Intent & Recklessness

The judge found that Bongo Ideas acted with malice and gross negligence, disregarding the potential consequences of his statements.

 

Court’s Decision & Orders

The High Court issued the following directives:

1. Defamation Liability: The court ruled that Bongo Ideas was guilty of libel.

2. Damages Awarded:

The defendant was ordered to pay GHC 100,000 in damages.

He is also responsible for covering Kojo Forex’s legal fees and any additional compensation deemed necessary by the court.

3. Public Apology & Retraction:

Bongo Ideas must publicly apologize and retract the defamatory statements on Twitter/X.

4. Perpetual Injunction:

The court permanently restrains Bongo Ideas from making further defamatory remarks about Kojo Forex.
